Sen. Dr. Jeff Gordon Applauds $10,092 Investment in Downtown Vernon Mural Project - CT Senate Republic

HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Jeff Gordon (R – Woodstock) is applauding the successful fundraising campaign for Threads of Community: A Welcome Mural, a community-led project that will bring new public artwork to Vernon’s historic downtown and Cultural District.

The project raised $5,092 through community crowdfunding and received an additional $5,000 matching grant from Sustainable CT’s Community Match Fund, bringing the total investment to $10,092.

The funding will support the creation of a mural on a highly visible building, helping beautify downtown Vernon and create a welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

“This is great news for Vernon, and I am very happy to see this investment in our community,” said Sen. Gordon. “Projects like this help bring people together, celebrate our local communities, and make our downtown areas more inviting for residents, families, visitors, and small businesses. I applaud everyone who contributed to making this project possible.”

Sustainable CT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting more sustainable, vibrant, and resilient communities throughout Connecticut. Its Community Match Fund provides matching grants for locally supported projects that benefit communities across the state.

According to Sustainable CT, the Threads of Community campaign is part of a broader effort that has resulted in $109,098 in total community investment in Vernon through the Community Match Fund over time.

“I am pleased to see organizations like Sustainable CT working with local residents to support projects that make a difference in our towns,” Sen. Gordon said. “Vernon has a rich history and a strong sense of community. This mural will be another positive addition to the downtown area, and I look forward to seeing the finished project.”

Since its establishment in 2019, Sustainable CT’s Community Match Fund has supported more than 400 community-led projects in 88 Connecticut municipalities, with more than $5 million invested statewide.

“Thank you to Sustainable CT, the project organizers, and everyone who donated and supported this effort,” Sen. Gordon added. “It is encouraging to see people coming together to invest in their community. I am glad to see this project moving forward and wish everyone involved continued success.”
