Sen. Cicarella: Fatal Bloomfield Crash Shows Why Connecticut Must Do More to Protect Tow Truck Operators - CT Senate Republic

Hartford – State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-34), Ranking Member of the Public Safety and Security Committee, issued the following statement following the death of tow truck operator Alexander John Ramos, who was struck and killed while working roadside in Bloomfield Tuesday night.

“My heart goes out to Alex’s children, family, friends, coworkers, and the entire towing and recovery community. He went to work to help someone in need and should have been able to return home safely to his family.

This tragedy is another devastating reminder of why I have been fighting for years to improve safety for the men and women working on the side of our roads.

Tow truck operators put themselves in dangerous situations every day to help the rest of us. We should not wait for another tow operator to lose their life before taking commonsense steps that could make them safer.

Slow down. Move over. And give these professionals the protections they deserve. I am going to continue pushing this issue until we get it done.”
