Hartford Violence: CT Senate GOP Statement
August 17, 2026
Several Senate Republican lawmakers are urging the Lamont administration to heed the call from the Hartford Police Union to step up the state’s collaboration with the city in addressing the spike in violence.
“We urge the Lamont administration to listen to the understaffed Hartford Police Department, which is at a self-described ‘tipping point’.
Collaborate.
Be more active.
Revoke permits. Enforce occupancy limits. Object to liquor license renewals for bad businesses.
People are getting shot and killed.
And this is not just a Hartford issue. We are seeing it across the state.
Take action now to address this persistent and senseless violence.
Prioritize public safety.
Listen to the brave men and women on the front lines.
Make sure they have the tools and resources they need to keep the community safe.”
