Sen. Gordon and Rep. Demicco Recognize and Celebrate 36th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act

HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Dr. Jeff Gordon and State Representative Mike Demicco today recognized the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the landmark civil rights law signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H.W. Bush.

The ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and established important protections to promote equal access and opportunity in employment, education, health care, transportation, public accommodations, housing, and other areas of daily life.

“Today marks the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a landmark civil rights achievement that has expanded opportunities for millions of Americans with disabilities,” said Sen. Gordon. “Every person deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to contribute their talents and abilities. The ADA shows what can be accomplished when communities, lawmakers, and citizens work together to protect rights and build a more accessible and inclusive future. There’s more to do and, I am proud to work in a bipartisan way to help people.”
