“Tsunami” CT H2O Rate Hikes Warning: CT Senate GOP Statement on Aquarion Sale Closing - CT Senate Republic

Several Senate Republicans issued the following statement regarding the closing of the sale of Aquarion, the state’s largest water utility serving 735,000 customers across 60 municipalities, by Eversource to the Aquarion Water Authority, a quasi-public nonprofit.

“Brace yourself, Connecticut:

Brace yourself for a tsunami of unaffordable water bill rate increases.

Year after year after year.

And to add insult to injury: These future water rate hikes won’t need approval from state government regulators anymore.

Remember the bill that Gov. Lamont signed which brought us to this day?

Republicans saw from Day One that the language in that bill stunk.

It never got a public hearing.

Ratepayers had no say.

Senate Republicans all voted ‘no’.

Senate Democrats voted ‘yes’.

So, why did Gov. Lamont sign it?

He didn’t listen to Attorney General Tong.

Why?

Senate Republicans have been sounding this alarm for two years.

Senate Republicans will continue to stand with overburdened ratepayers who will be forced to dig deeper into their pockets to pay these higher and higher water bills.”
