June 19, 2026
State Sen. Tony Hwang (R-Fairfield) released the following statement on the passing of Holocaust survivor Rabbi Philip Lazowski:
“Rabbi Lazowski’s life was a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and serving others. Having endured the Holocaust, he chose to spend his life teaching, healing, and bringing people together through faith.
“He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life and inspire them to make a positive difference in their communities. At the heart of this was his understanding of our shared human experience. Connecticut is a better place because of his life’s work and the countless lives he touched along the way.
“I will deeply miss his presence in the State Senate and the annual Holocaust Remembrance program. His impact and powerful lessons to never forget the sorrow of the Holocaust will be felt for generations to come.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Ruth, his family, and all those who were blessed to know and learn from him. May his memory and legacy continue to be a source of inspiration and blessing.”
