Senator Heather Somers Celebrates Completion of Shore Avenue Seawall Project in Groton - CT Senate Republic

GROTON, CT—State Senator Heather Somers (R—Stonington) today celebrated the reopening of Shore Avenue in Groton following the successful completion of the Shore Avenue Seawall Project. The project restores critical infrastructure damaged during severe storms and strengthens the shoreline against future coastal impacts.

Construction began in 2024 to rebuild the seawall, repair the roadway, and improve surrounding pedestrian walkways. Senator Somers secured $2.7 million in state bonding to support the project and help move the long-awaited restoration forward.

Joined by Groton Mayor Juliette Parker and Groton City Mayor Jill Rusk, Senator Somers participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and presented an official State of Connecticut citation recognizing the project’s completion.

“This project was a long time coming, and we are thrilled to see it completed,” said Senator Somers. “Reopening Shore Avenue, restoring public access along the waterfront, and rebuilding a resilient seawall to protect against future storm damage are major steps forward for the community. The Town and City of Groton have been outstanding partners throughout this process, and I was proud to help secure the funding needed to make this project a reality.”
