Gordon Supports 2026 State Budget Adjustment After Review, Cites Affordability Measures
May 2, 2026
HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) voted yes on the 2026 State Budget Adjustment Bill following a detailed review of the proposal. A member of the Appropriations Committee, Sen. Gordon noted that the state budget includes a mix of positive elements and areas of concern.
While he supported an alternative Senate Republican proposal that would have provided approximately $1 billion in tax cuts while maintaining commitments to increased public school funding, he ultimately voted in favor of the final budget after considering its overall impact on his constituents.
“I take a lot of time reviewing and deciding upon my votes on our state’s budgets,” said Sen. Gordon. “Our budgets are big and have many moving parts. As a result, each budget has some good aspects and some concerning aspects.”
Key components of the budget include:
• $5.72 million more Education Cost Sharing (ECS) funding for public schools
• $1.1 million more for towns from the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund
• Exemption of school supplies from the sales tax
“These are just some examples of the many meaningful items I have been working on,” said Sen. Gordon. “It is about affordability. More money coming back to our towns lowers property taxes. More money people upfront can keep for themselves through lower taxes provides some relief. I will continue to work on affordability issues, including making more strides to get rid of the public benefit taxes on electric bills and to limit the financial impacts of energy policies.”
