Help for Connecticut Farmers - CT Senate Republic

Dear Connecticut Farmers,

We’re sharing a brief update, along with a short video, on our on-going efforts to support you.

Dairy farmers and food-producing farmers are under increasing pressure from low milk prices, rising production costs, and higher taxes. With less than 80 farms remaining in Connecticut, the need for action is urgent.

We support HB 5570 – An Act Concerning A Tax Credit For Milk which would establish a tax credit to help bridge the gap between production costs and milk prices, and follows our proposals: SB 74 – An Act Establishing A Tax Credit For Dairy Farmers and SB 98 – An Act Establishing A Connecticut Dairy Farmer Tax Credit For Dairy Farmer Tax Credit.  We are advocating for a $20 million relief plan to help stabilize farms during market downturns, while also advocating for immediate assistance from the Governor through the state’s Emergency Relief Fund and the Department of Agriculture.

Earlier this year, we also stood with farmers facing significant property tax increases due to changes in farmland assessment—costing some tens of thousands of dollars.

Senate Republicans remain committed to helping farmers decrease these burdens, supporting our farming community, and protecting the future of local agriculture.
