Senator John A. Kissel Seeks Answers Following Death of Incarcerated Individual at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution

Enfield, CT – Sen. John A. Kissel (R–Enfield) issued the following statement on the death of an incarcerated individual at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield:
“I was very troubled to learn of the death of an incarcerated individual early this morning at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution. My understanding is that correctional staff responded to an emergency medical situation shortly after midnight and attempted life-saving measures before the individual was later pronounced deceased,” stated Sen. Kissel.
According to the Connecticut Department of Correction, the death occurred during the early morning hours of March 12. The agency’s Security Division and the Connecticut State Police are investigating the incident, and the exact cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Sen. Kissel added, “I have reached out to the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Correction to request additional information about this incident and the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death. My thoughts are with the family of the deceased, as well as the correctional officers and staff who responded to this emergency.”
