“Customers will get crushed.” Sen. Harding Statement on Approval of Aquarion Sale

Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority’s final decision on the merger between Aquarion and the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority.

“It’s a backbreaker. Aquarion customers will get crushed by a tsunami of annual water rate hikes.

The deal stunk from Day One. Several members of the Senate Republican Caucus and I have been outspoken about how it was the product of an atrocious legislative backroom handshake that silenced the voices of the public. The deal garnered widespread and vocal bipartisan opposition by local, regional and state government officials.

Our focus as Senate Republicans will continue to be on protecting water customers in this already unaffordable state while protecting the environment.”
