CT Senate GOP Statement on Gov’s Proposed “Gas Tax Holiday”
March 10, 2026
For Immediate Release
On behalf of the Senate Republican Caucus, Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the governor’s newly proposed “gas tax holiday” which would be included in future “emergency certified” legislation.
“Connecticut is unaffordable under one-party Democrat rule. We need all sorts of relief: on property taxes, income taxes, car taxes and electric bills. The governor’s emergency legislation could include all those items, as well as language to protect consumers across Connecticut who are about to get hit with a tsunami of annual water rate hikes.
Our Senate Republican proposals offer real, permanent relief, up to $1600 per family. We want to effectively eliminate the car tax for working families and get the public benefits taxes taken off of too-damn-high electric bills. The governor’s proposal is mere window dressing by comparison.
Can’t afford Connecticut…can’t afford Connecticut Democrats!”
