CT Senate GOP Statement on CT Gas Tax Holiday - CT Senate Republic

On behalf of the Senate Republican Caucus, Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding Gov. Lamont dropping his push for a Connecticut gas tax holiday as prices approach $4 per gallon.

“Surprising and disappointing.

Do Democrats want to make Connecticut more affordable or not?

Did Gov. Lamont not mean what he said two weeks ago?

Last week, the Senate Republican Caucus wrote to the governor with regard to his Mar. 10 public statements about suspending the state’s gas tax. In those statements, he said the legislature should take immediate action.

We respectfully urged the governor to schedule a meeting with legislative leaders at the earliest opportunity so that a consensus proposal could be developed in a timely manner.

We noted how Senate Republicans have offered significant proposals to lower the cost of living and to permanently address the state’s affordability crisis. Our proposals offer real, permanent relief, up to $1600 per family. We want to effectively eliminate the car tax for working families and get the public benefits taxes taken off of too-damn-high electric bills.

But there was no reply to our letter.

There was no meeting.

And now there’s no relief.”
