Statement from Sen. Sampson Regarding Conditions at Countryside Apartments - CT Senate Republic

Wolcott — Sen. Rob Sampson (R-16) released the following statement regarding reports that elderly and disabled residents experienced difficulties during a recent blizzard:

“What’s happening at Countryside Apartments is unacceptable. Residents were left unable to open their doors because snow and ice were not cleared in a timely manner. Some residents reportedly fell. Others feared what would happen if there was a fire or medical emergency. That is not a minor oversight, that is a serious safety failure.

While we are still working to gather all the facts, it is essential that housing providers serving vulnerable populations maintain conditions that prioritize safety and accessibility at all times, especially during emergencies.

My office has reached out to the property management to better understand what occurred and to ensure that appropriate steps are being taken to address concerns.

We will continue to follow this matter closely. The well-being and safety of our seniors must remain a top priority.”
