Sen. Sampson Statement on Sen. McCrory
January 22, 2026
Sen. Rob Sampson, the Ranking Senator on the legislature’s Government Oversight Committee, issued the following statement regarding the audit which flagged potential fraud at a Hartford nonprofit linked to Sen. Doug McCrory.
“I firmly believe that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.
With that said, here is the situation:
He’s mentioned no less than 20 times in the damning audit which cites ‘potential fraud and misappropriation of public funds.’
The FBI is probing his connection to Blue Hills.
Hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars are missing. It’s just gone. Money that could have helped people in need.
It certainly looks like millions of dollars of fraud has been committed against Connecticut taxpayers.
His own Senate Democrat Leadership won’t urge him to do it, but I will:
Step back from your responsibilities as a lawmaker until the investigation is complete.
Either recuse yourself of your legislative authority – as Gov. Lamont, Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding and House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora have urged – or resign from office.
I look forward to the bipartisan legislative hearing to peel back the layers of this onion to prevent this abuse of the Connecticut taxpayers and people in need from happening again.”
