Southington— State Sen. Rob Sampson (R-16) on Jan. 29 presented a legislative citation to LiveWell, recognizing the nonprofit organization’s leadership in advancing brain health and dementia prevention through the launch of the first FINGER Clinic in the United States.

The citation was presented in honor of LiveWell’s statewide event, held in partnership with the Yale School of Nursing and the Yale Center for Aging Well, marking a significant milestone in the fight against cognitive decline and dementia. The clinic is housed at LiveWell’s Resilient Living Center in Plantsville and represents a new, evidence-based model of prevention that integrates science, coaching, community, and purpose.

A FINGER Clinic is based on the internationally recognized Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER), which demonstrated that cognitive decline can be slowed through a comprehensive, personalized approach. The model focuses on multiple lifestyle factors including nutrition, physical activity, cognitive training, social engagement, and management of vascular risk factors — to support long-term brain health and reduce dementia risk.

“LiveWell’s work is placing Connecticut at the forefront of brain health innovation,” said Sen. Sampson. “By bringing together research, clinical expertise, and community-based care, this initiative offers real hope for individuals and families affected by cognitive change, while helping shape the future of dementia prevention nationwide.”
