Sen. Harding Stands with Local Farmers to Oppose Major Tax Hikes
January 16, 2026
Sen. Stephen Harding on Jan. 13 stood in support of farmers from Litchfield County and throughout the state who are facing major tax increases following changes to how state farmland is assessed.
“We are standing with farmers and pushing back against harmful farmland tax hikes that threaten family farms and open space in our communities,” Sen. Harding said. “Our farmers are the backbone of our local economy and our way of life. State policy should support the people who put food on our tables — not make it harder for them to keep their land in production. Please sign our petition at www.SaveCTLand.org to join us in speaking out.”
Sen. Harding and farmers are calling for a moratorium on the new assessment rates. They want farmers to have a voice in how future state land assessments are conducted.
