Sen. Harding Pushes to Prevent Massive Tax Hikes on CT Farmers - CT Senate Republic

Farmers from across the state attended a Jan. 20 forum hosted by CT Senate Republicans and Sen. Stephen Harding to address massive tax increases that have threatened to put agricultural businesses out of operation.

“Farmers deserve a voice, and we are giving them that voice,” said Sen. Harding. “We must protect Connecticut farms. This huge tax hike would bankrupt farmers. The system needs reforms, and we applaud farmers for coming to the State Capitol to share their stories.”

Ahead of the Republicans’ forum, Gov. Ned Lamont called for a halt to the tax hikes and a reinstatement of previous land values. Republicans and farmers called that a positive step, but noted more must done to address the methodology that was used by state government to bring about those outrageous and unjustified increases.

A newly created online petition – www.SaveCTLand.org – already has 20,700 signatures.

The Republicans said work has just begun to start fixing this huge farmland tax spike problem.

“The outcry from people across Connecticut is preventing this outrageous tax hike, but we must keep up the public pressure to bring about long-term reform,” Sen. Harding said. “Keep signing the petition. Republicans will soon be holding public meetings across Connecticut on this issue.”
