As “Tsunami of Endless Water Rate Hikes” Looms, CT Senate GOP Lawmakers Urge AG to Appeal ASAP - CT Senate Republic

Several Senate Republicans, including Sen. Stephen Harding, Sen. Ryan Fazio, Sen. Heather Somers, Sen. Eric Berthel, and Sen. Jason Perillo today issued the following statement regarding the blocked sale of Aquarion Water Company:

“A ‘costly loser’.

That’s what Attorney General Tong called this atrocious backroom deal which will bring about a tsunami of endless water rate hikes for ratepayers across Connecticut.

Attorney General Tong is right. Interestingly, Gov. Lamont signed the backroom deal into law anyway.

Today, we again strongly urge the Attorney General to file an appeal as soon as possible.

Because time is of the essence.

Feb. 18 is the proposed final decision timeline from the Aquarion Water Authority, the Regional Water Authority and Eversource. Less than a month from now.

The Regional Water Authority filed plans to raise rates in the Aquarion region by a whopping 65 percent.

Why is this being rushed through so quickly? That’s not in the public’s interest. That’s not good government.

And Gov. Lamont? He is mum. He isn’t commenting.

We thank the attorney general for his diligence on this matter.”
