State Bond Commission Approves Funding for Infrastructure Projects in Stonington and Preston
December 18, 2025
HARTFORD, CT—The Connecticut State Bond Commission today approved funding for two important infrastructure projects in the 18th Senate District, a move applauded by State Senator Heather Somers (R—Groton).
The approved funding includes:
- $500,000 for the Town of Stonington to support improvements to the town dock
- $400,000 for the Town of Preston to fund improvements to the town’s pump house
“I am very pleased that the State Bond Commission approved funding for these critical local projects,” said Senator Somers. “The investment in Stonington’s town dock is especially important, as this funding will receive a federal match and compliments long-standing legislative work alongside the fishermen and maritime community who rely on this infrastructure every day. Strengthening the dock supports safety, economic activity, and the working waterfront that is so vital to the region.”
Improvements to the Stonington town dock will enhance safety, accessibility, and usability for residents, businesses, visitors, and the local fishing fleet.
In Preston, funding for pump house improvements will enhance the reliability and efficiency of municipal services and help bring closure to a long-standing environmental effort.
“The Preston funding will help facilitate the completion of the decade-long cleanup of the former Norwich State Hospital site,” Somers added. “This project represents years of effort by the town and state to clear the site and move toward its next chapter, and I’m proud to support that work.”
Senator Somers worked closely with local officials in both communities to advance these funding requests and ensure they were brought before the State Bond Commission.
“I appreciate the collaboration with local leaders and the Bond Commission’s support in moving these projects forward,” Somers said. “These investments will make a meaningful and lasting difference for both Stonington and Preston.”
