December 6, 2025
EASTON, CT—State Senator Tony Hwang (R-Fairfield, Easton, Newtown & Bethel) today hosted a press conference outside Easton Town Hall to designate locally – Easton’s as the Christmas Tree Capital of Connecticut due to its significant numbers of tree farms in town. Hwang reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the town’s agricultural and farm based small businesses. He was joined by local farmers and community members in recognizing the vital role Easton plays in sustaining Connecticut’s Christmas tree and agricultural industry.
Senator Hwang praised Easton’s longstanding agricultural heritage and continued commitment to farm land and watershed protection, emphasizing both the economic importance of farming and the deep personal meaning it brings to families across the region.
“Today we honor Easton’s farmers who have made the town famous for its Christmas Tree and farm to table industry. The families and individuals whose hard work sustains not only our holiday traditions but our regional economy and agricultural identity,” said Senator Hwang. “Recognizing Easton as Connecticut’s Christmas Tree Capital shines a deserved spotlight on these farms, but our support must continue long after the holiday season ends. These farms are a gateway into a world of environmental stewardship and possibilities. Our efforts to support them are so important to their preservation for the future.”
Senator Hwang spoke about how Christmas tree farms are more than agricultural enterprises, they are places where families create memories, traditions, and a sense of connection to the land. He noted that Easton’s farmers live in the community, live off the land, and love the land, making their work vital not only to the holidays but to the town’s broader identity and open-space landscape. He underscored that supporting these farms through the holidays and beyond is essential to sustaining an economic sector as critical as agriculture itself.
The event underscored the significance of agriculture to Easton’s history and economy, particularly the town’s prominent role in Christmas tree cultivation. Speakers encouraged residents and policymakers alike to continue championing local agriculture, open space preservation, sustainable farming initiatives, and the small family farms that anchor Easton’s rural character.
“Easton has become a destination for thousands who come to town every year to buy their Christmas trees. This event is an opportunity to recognize the farmers who have put Easton on the map as the Christmas Tree Capital of Connecticut and make such an important contribution to the local economy,” said Jake Conover, Chair of the Easton Agricultural Commission. “The Holiday Edition of the Easton Farm Map helps holiday visitors locate not only our famous Christmas tree farms, but also other farms that are open for business during the holidays as well as local restaurants.”
Senator Hwang concluded the celebration by reaffirming his commitment to the community’s farming families, “We want to continue our partnerships with farmers and ensure that Easton’s agricultural legacy thrives for generations to come. These farms create moments and memories for families during the holiday season and beyond, and it is our responsibility to support and protect the land, the people, and the traditions that make this community so special.”
