Sen. Gordon Statement on Deal to Limit Cost Increases in Sale of Manchester, Rockville Hospitals - CT Senate Republic

Sen. Jeff Gordon, (R-Woodstock), a medical doctor, today issued the following statement regarding the deal between Hartford HealthCare and the state to limit care costs and protect physicians providing medical care after the purchase of Manchester and Rockville hospitals. “Our mutual goal must always be to put patients above profits, support those providing medical care, and protect health care jobs.

Connecticut families rely on the hospitals impacted by Prospect Medical Holdings bankruptcy for medical and emergency care, and thousands of workers are understandably concerned about their livelihoods.

As both a practicing doctor and a senator, my priority is to safeguard the accessibility of high-quality and safe healthcare, and the stability of jobs in our state.

It’s why I proposed the ‘Putting Patients Over Profits Act’ this year to prevent for-profit private equity firms buying or controlling Connecticut hospitals.

We must work in bipartisan fashion to prevent the sale of hospital real estate and assets to a third party as part of profit schemes that require the hospitals to be saddled with expensive lease payments they cannot afford.

We must also better protect health care professionals making medical decisions from the corporatization of medicine by business interests. Our North Star must always be: Patients above profits.”
