Senator Gordon Votes to Advance Day Kimball and UConn Health Partnership, Strengthening Healthcare in the 35th District - CT Senate Republic

HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) today voted in favor of securing a stronger and more secure healthcare future in the 35th Senate District. Today, the CT State Senate passed H.B. 8001, landmark legislation that begins the formal process for Day Kimball Health to join the UConn Health System, alongside Waterbury Hospital and Bristol Hospital.

The bill also authorizes critical state bonding funds to support needed capital improvements across these facilities, ensuring patients continue to receive high-quality care.

“This is a major step forward for the people of Northeastern Connecticut,” said Senator Gordon. “As a doctor and a senator, I am proud to have worked for, supported, and voted for this bill. This is a strong step forward for patient care services and healthcare jobs in the 35th District. Tonight’s vote moves us closer to this goal. I will continue to fight for healthcare in Northeastern CT and throughout our state.”

This bill now awaits passage by the Governor. Once enacted into law, the measure will allow negotiations to begin between the Day Kimball Health Board of Directors and the UConn Health Board of Directors regarding the terms of the proposed consolidation.

Senator Gordon expressed gratitude to those involved in the effort. “I’m proud to work alongside the dedicated healthcare professionals, hospital leadership, and community members who have advocated tirelessly for a better future for all the services Day Kimball Hospital provides.”
