Senator Gordon Statement on SNAP Benefits
HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) released the following statement regarding SNAP benefits:
It is good news that in Connecticut, those who rely upon the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for food now have full benefits restored for November. The state is filling in the gap of partial federal funding. I have been advocating for a common-sense, straightforward, and fiscally responsible way to help without budget gimmicks. I am glad to have worked with others to get this done, using the state’s surplus fund to do this, with checks and balances in place. If the federal government reimburses Connecticut, then put that money back into the surplus account. I ask our federal delegation to redouble efforts to get reimbursement.
If you want to check your SNAP account, then go to MyDSS.ct.gov or call 1-888-328-2666.
I know the great work that food banks, food pantries, churches, nonprofit organizations, and people in our communities are doing to help. Thank you for all that you are doing.
I find political gamesmanship and politicians voting against reopening the federal government that has affected SNAP to be inappropriate. I strongly encourage U.S. Senators to find common ground and vote to quickly reopen the federal government fully and leave programs such as SNAP out of political theatrics.
