Sen. Gordon Applauds $50,000 Grant to Strengthen Farm-to-School Programs in Ashford
November 25, 2025
HARTFORD – State Senator Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) today applauded the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s (DoAg) announcement of a $50,000 investment through the CT Grown for CT Kids Grant program, which will support innovative farm-to-school projects in Ashford.
The Ashford School District will receive $50,000 to connect students, families, and local farms through gardening, cooking, and farm visits. The project is designed to promote healthy eating, encourage hands-on agricultural learning, and strengthen community connections rooted in Ashford’s vibrant local farming tradition.
“This is great news for students, teachers, and families in Ashford,” said Sen. Gordon. “Investments like this do more than support classroom learning, they help our kids understand where their food comes from and appreciate the hard work of our local farmers. This program brings the community together, creates new opportunities for experiential education, and reinforces the importance of agriculture in our region’s heritage and economy. I’m proud to see Ashford recognized and supported in such a meaningful way.”
The CT Grown for CT Kids Grant program continues to strengthen Connecticut’s local food system by fostering partnerships among schools, early childhood education centers, farmers, and community organizations. The projects funded this year are expected to benefit more than 58,500 children, increasing access to fresh, locally grown foods, and expanding farm-to-school learning opportunities across the state.
