CT GOP Senators Thank PURA for Preventing “Tsunami” of Water Rate Hikes - CT Senate Republic

For Immediate Release

CT GOP Senators Thank PURA for Preventing “Tsunami” of Water Rate Hikes

Several Republican State Senators today issued the following statement after state utility regulators voted to deny the proposed acquisition of Aquarion Water Company by the Regional Water Authority.

“We thank PURA for voting down this atrocious deal which would have caused a tsunami of unending water rate spikes in cities and towns across Connecticut.

Yesterday, we stood with a bipartisan group of mayors and community advocates to note how this shameful deal stunk from day one.

It was never transparent. It had no public hearing.

It would have increased utility costs and property taxes.

It would have negatively impacted the environment and public health.

This deal should have never been rammed through the state legislature by majority Democrats last year.

This deal should have never been signed into law by Gov. Ned Lamont.

Thankfully, PURA denied it at the last moment, and that is very good news for already overburdened Connecticut residents.

Now that the decision has been rendered, there should be an open bidding process should Eversource continue to want to sell Aquarion.”
