Sen. Republican Leader Harding Statement on Contingency SNAP Funds
October 29, 2025

Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding contingency SNAP funds:
“As Senate Democrats at our State Capitol play political games, Senate Republicans are in agreement with the largest union of federal workers: The American Federation of Government Employees.
The union just told Democrats and Republicans to 1) Immediately reopen the government 2) Pass a clean continuing resolution 3) End the political gamesmanship 4) Stop punishing the people who keep our nation running 5) Help the vulnerable residents you represent – and put food into people’s mouths – by ending this shutdown today. 6) Argue about specific public policies later.
Connecticut Senate and House Republicans continue to be ready and willing to have a serious debate about the federal changes, who they will affect, and how to address them in a responsible way that is within our smart, bipartisan, fiscally responsible guardrails.
We as Republicans are in the minority in Hartford, yet we continue to be open to conversations and common sense bipartisan solutions.
Connecticut Senate Democrats? Well, as they are clearly demonstrating with this press conference, they much prefer gamesmanship and partisan politics.”
