Sen. Harding Challenges CT Senate Dems: “Pick Up The Phone”
October 30, 2025

Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding today continued to point the finger squarely at Democrats for the federal government shutdown, saying:
“My challenge to Democrats in the Connecticut Senate stands:
Instead of jumping in front of a microphone to play political games, pick up the phone.
Call on Connecticut’s Democratic members of Congress to drop their opposition to a short-term government funding deal. You have their cell phone numbers, don’t you?
Senate Republicans are in agreement with the largest union of federal workers: The American Federation of Government Employees. The union has asked to reopen the federal government immediately and negotiate these critical issues on healthcare, while the government is open, and all our citizens are once again receiving the full amount of the benefit programs they deserve.
Senate Republicans are also prepared to work in a bipartisan fashion about offsets to these cuts, while ensuring the plan is done in a fiscally responsible manner, that will not lead to massive tax increases on the middle class.
So, Connecticut Senate Democrats? Will you pick up the phone to tell Democrats to reopen the government so families can receive these critical benefits?
Or, do you still prefer gamesmanship and partisan politics?”
