Sen. Gordon Statement on Recent Public Discourse and Standards of Leadership - CT Senate Republic

HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) today issued the following statement regarding recent alarming statements and behavior by individuals in public leadership:

“If you’ve seen this week’s headlines, from the abhorrent statements promoting violence by a Virginia Attorney General candidate, to the leaked Telegram messages out of New York (and a Vermont elected official’s involvement) that speak unacceptably to racism and bigotry, you’re probably alarmed by the state of the public discourse. These moments serve as a reminder that leadership is defined as much by our conduct as it is by our policies.

The public trust depends on consistency between our words and our actions. It depends on respect for others.  It depends on working with and for others toward common sense, common purpose solutions to the issues in our communities. To me, integrity isn’t just a catchphrase. Nor is it a partisan value. It is a prerequisite for authentic leadership,” said Sen. Gordon.
