“Infuriating.” CT Senate GOP Statement on DCF Getting Duped on Virtual Wellness Check
October 17, 2025

Sen. Stephen Harding and Sen. Jason Perillo issued the following statement regarding DCF’s announcement that a family misled them on the whereabouts of an 11-year-old girl whose remains were found last week by having someone else pose as her during a virtual wellness check earlier this year after she is believed to have already been killed.
“Infuriating. DCF admits to being duped via zoom.
The State of Connecticut failed Jacqueline ‘Mimi’ Torres-Garcia.
That’s outrageous. That’s inexcusable. That’s heartbreaking.
We now need more answers. We need full details of this video call. We need full transparency.
This is an example of why essential state employees’ remote work must be constantly reviewed, especially when it involves protecting our most vulnerable residents.“
