CT Senate GOP Statement on Gov’s Office Audit
October 3, 2025

Sen. Henri Martin, Sen. Rob Sampson, Sen. Heather Somers and Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding a state auditors report which found that Governor Lamont’s office approved timesheets for the governor’s staff “without direct knowledge of their work hours or locations” and lacked formal written procedures for doing so.
“It’s an absence of accountability.
An absence of management.
And it starts at the top.
Interestingly, it also sheds light on why the governor thinks it’s no big deal for Connecticut taxpayers to continue to pay the disgraced former chancellor of the Connecticut State Colleges and University system Terrence Cheng $442,000 a year to do…well, nothing.
Remember when Gov. Lamont called it ‘small ball’ when Cheng was ordering succulent $60 steaks and getting chauffeured rides on our dime?
Remember when Gov. Lamont called it ‘small ball’ when Cheng got thousands of taxpayer dollars to move from his home in New York, never moved, and kept the money?
Republicans do.”
