CT Senate GOP Statement on Dems’ ‘Just In Case’ Fund
October 16, 2025

Sen. Stephen Harding, Sen. Heather Somers and Sen. Ryan Fazio issued the following statement regarding Democratic legislative leaders’ reported plans to use up to $500 million of the state budget surplus next month to create a “Response Fund” to blunt yet-to-be realized federal budget cuts. “Senate Republicans are ready and willing to have a serious debate about what the federal changes are and who they will affect.
However, it is unacceptable for Democrats to arbitrarily set aside a half of a billion of Connecticut taxpayers’ dollars ‘just in case’.
There will be no public hearing for working families to weigh in and ask questions about their money.
Maybe, if given a voice, struggling Connecticut families would say: ‘Return that $500 million to us, the overburdened taxpayers.’
Unfortunately, under one-party rule, they are voiceless.”
