September 25, 2025

For Immediate Release
Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the state’s chief utility regulator agreeing to remove herself from any decisions prior to her final day in office on Oct. 10. “Ok, but the questions the Senate Republican Caucus and I posed 72 hours ago about the Lamont administration’s listless and leaderless regulatory authority remain unanswered.
On Sep. 22, the Senate Republican Caucus asked the following:
- ‘Gov. Lamont says his office did not explicitly ask for the resignation letter from Chair Gillett. Was he surprised to receive it and read it?
- Is PURA’s chief of staff resigning? When?
- Is PURA’s general counsel resigning? When?
- Was Gov. Lamont surprised when PURA reversed itself and acknowledged the existence of directives limiting the ability of commissioners to consult staff experts directly on regulatory questions?
- Just two PURA commissioners will remain as of Oct. 10. State law says that the chair may assign any matter before PURA to a board of three or more members. What happens now with the current UI rate case up for a final vote on Oct. 28 and other matters before PURA?
- Governor Lamont: On behalf of working families who are getting crushed month after month by their unaffordable electricity bills, we need full transparency and leadership from you. What’s your plan?’
The CT Senate Republicans will continue to seek these answers.”
