“Exhibit A”: CT Senate GOP Statement on 2X Deported NH Dog Park Sex Assault Suspect
September 13, 2025

Sen. Stephen Harding, Sen. Henri Martin, Sen. Paul Cicarella, Sen. Heather Somers, Sen. Rob Sampson, Sen. Ryan Fazio, Sen. Jason Perillo, Sen. Jeff Gordon, and Sen. Eric Berthel today issued the following statement regarding the revelation that the suspect in a sex assault of a jogger at a New Haven dog park is an illegal alien from Guatemala who has been deported twice.
“First, we commend New Haven Police for their diligence and the victim for her courage and strength.
Second, those who commit heinous violent crimes must be held accountable. This individual has already been deported twice. He is charged with aggravated rape while using a box cutter.
Connecticut taxpayers should not pay for him to stay in our jail.
Deport him.
Third, there is no doubt that Connecticut is a super-sanctuary state. Under Democrat one-party rule, we are a magnet for violent illegal aliens.
This case is ‘Exhibit A’.
Fourth, what’s the illegal immigration price tag here in Connecticut? The Lamont administration won’t seek that answer. Why?
More than 100,000 illegal immigrants live in Connecticut. Many enjoy state taxpayer-funded medical insurance, housing and other benefits. Open borders have made Connecticut more unaffordable, yet Democrats at the State Capitol want to keep expanding benefits for illegal immigrants.
Fifth, Democrats already prevent Connecticut law enforcement from communicating with ICE officials who are seeking to deport violent felons. Now, Democrats are working to further limit communication between ICE and DCF workers. As they do this, Democrats, like Gov. Ned Lamont, openly state that ALL illegal immigrants are ‘welcome’ in Connecticut.
Is this individual ‘welcome’, Gov. Lamont?
We cherish the American Dream, and we understand the role immigrants have played in contributing to the successes of the United States.
We continue to support legal immigration, law enforcement and victims of violent crime.
Republicans will continue to fight to uphold our immigration laws while demanding safer streets and respect for the taxpayers’ money.”
