CT Senate GOP Statement on New Oct. 1 Street Takeovers Law

Sen. Stephen Harding, Sen. Paul Cicarella, Sen. Jason Perillo and Sen. Jeff Gordon issued the following statement regarding a new Oct. 1 state law which allows for up to two-year license suspensions and up to $2,000 fines for participants in street takeovers.

“It’s progress, because clearly, criminal penalties must reflect the seriousness and risk of harm our citizens are subjected to by offenders.

Recent weeks have brought street takeovers in Naugatuck and Shelton. Serious injuries have occurred.

These lawless street takeovers will continue to happen in our communities unless we join together as Republicans and Democrats to hold lawbreakers accountable. This collaboration would be welcome news to law enforcement officials across Connecticut.”
