CT Senate GOP Statement on ICE Lodging Retainer For NH Sex Assault Suspect
September 19, 2025

Sen. Stephen Harding, Sen. Paul Cicarella, Sen. Heather Somers and Sen. Rob Sampson today issued the following statement regarding immigration enforcement officials lodging a detainer for a twice-deported illegal alien from Guatemala accused of sexually assaulting a jogger at a New Haven dog park.
“Good. The detainer should prevent this sexual predator’s release to the streets of New Haven.
This terrible violent attack has put Connecticut back in the headlines as a super-sanctuary state.
This individual has already been deported twice. He is charged with aggravated rape while using a box cutter.
Many Connecticut Democrats believe there should be no immigration law enforcement in our state. They want to keep criminal illegal aliens on our streets, on our dime.
Republicans will continue to support legal immigration while demanding safer streets and respect for the taxpayers’ money.”
