CT Senate GOP Statement on “Concerning” DOT Audit - CT Senate Republic

For Immediate Release

Sen. Tony Hwang, Ranking Senator on the Transportation Committee, Sen. Rob Sampson, Ranking Senator on the Government Oversight Committee and Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding the state audit of the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

“The findings, which DOT agrees with, highlight several areas where taxpayers’ dollars can be better safeguarded.

Particularly concerning was how non-emergency overtime and non-emergency compensation time at DOT has not been getting pre-approved at least 80 percent of the time.

That lack of pre-approval merits DOT management’s immediate attention.

Managers at other state agencies should note this finding and determine if it is occurring in their departments as well.

We thank the bipartisan auditors and their staff for their work as our state’s fiscal watchdogs.”
