Senator Perillo Calls for Consumer Protections Following Sunnova Energy’s Bankruptcy Filing - CT Senate Republic

HARTFORD, CT – In the wake of a nationally known residential solar panel installer Sunnova Energy’s June filing for bankruptcy, Sen. Jason Perillo (R-Shelton) has asked state government officials to protect the company’s Connecticut consumers from being ripped off.

“We can’t let Connecticut solar customers get burned,” Sen. Perillo said. “I am hearing from Sunnova customers who paid for services that have never been provided. Additionally, they never received a call or anything in the mail about the bankruptcy filing. They are upset, and rightly so. The communication from this company has been poor, and people have been left in limbo. That’s unacceptable. They deserve answers, and we are working hard to get them answers.”

Sen. Perillo contacted the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and the Attorney General’s Office to alert state officials of the complaints and has requested an investigation. The agency’s Complaint Center is now assessing the situation.

“I urge anyone who is a Sunnova customer to contact me at Jason.Perillo@cga.ct.gov,” Sen. Perillo said. “I will make sure consumer protection officials follow up with you.”

Sunnova is the second-largest installer of third-party owned residential solar installations by market share.
