CT Senate GOP Statement on Attack of CT Corrections Officer

For Immediate Release 

Sen. Paul Cicarella, Sen. John A. Kissel, Sen. Rob Sampson and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding the Monday attack of a corrections officer by an inmate at Cheshire Correctional Institution who allegedly threw searing hot coffee in the officer’s face, attempted to slash the officer’s face, and attempted to stab and cut the officer. Three corrections officers reportedly sustained injuries to the neck, back and knees while restraining the inmate.

“Our thoughts are with these brave corrections officers and their families in the aftermath of what could have been an absolutely horrific and tragic incident.

We trust that our legal system will hold this vicious attacker accountable. We await a thorough report from the Department of Correction as to what corrective measures must be taken to better ensure the protection of our dedicated officers. Clearly, action steps must be taken.”
