Senator Jeff Gordon Delivers Historic Prescription Drug Pricing Reform
July 31, 2025

HARTFORD, CT – A true victory for the people of Connecticut was witnessed today as State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock), a physician and a Co-Chair of the Legislature’s Bipartisan Prescription Drug Pricing Task Force, joined Governor Ned Lamont in signing into law H.B. 7192, AN ACT IMPLEMENTING RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE BIPARTISAN DRUG TASK FORCE.
“This is a historic win for patients, local pharmacists, and health professionals working within a system weighed down by opaque pricing and middlemen profits,” said Sen. Gordon. “Connecticut now leads nationally with a prescription drug system that’s transparent, fair, and patient‑focused.”
H.B. 7192 introduces comprehensive measures to crack down on price gouging, to strengthen transparency in drug pricing decisions so that behind the scenes negotiated prices can actually help drive the cost down that people pay, and to protect access to local pharmacies so that insurance companies do not knock them out of coverage networks. “As a physician, I see how supply disruptions and profit‑driven middlemen harm patient care,” Sen. Gordon said. “This law puts patients first, ensuring timely access to critical medications without overcharges or delays.”
The new law reflects months of bipartisan collaboration, public meetings, a wide range of public and stakeholder input, and a shared commitment to prioritize people over special interests. Sen. Gordon added, “Since proposing this Task Force, I’ve collaborated closely with my co‑chairs, Sen. Matt Lesser, Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, and Rep. Tracy Marra, Governor Lamont, and stakeholders through multiple public hearings. Despite resistance from special interest groups until the final hour of the legislative session, we finally delivered reform today as this bill was signed into law.”
“This is forward‑thinking, bipartisan legislation that makes Connecticut a healthcare leader,” he concluded, “we built something smart, sensible, and strong, and we delivered.”
