Sen. Fazio & Sen. Harding on CT GDP Claim: “That’s just not true, Gov. Lamont.” - CT Senate Republic

For Immediate Release

Sen. Ryan Fazio and Sen. Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding Gov. Lamont’s statement today that Connecticut’s GDP is growing faster than the region.  (http://ct-n.com/ctnplayer.asp?odID=25111&jump=0:00:15)

“That’s just not true, Gov. Lamont.

The state’s real GDP just declined 0.9%.

Connecticut’s quarter-over-quarter growth ranks eighth in the Northeast, behind Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Maryland, and New York.  (https://www.bea.gov/news/2025/gross-domestic-product-state-and-personal-income-state-1st-quarter-2025)

Connecticut ranks 47th in the country for the competitiveness and affordability of its tax code. No wonder we are also in the bottom 10 of all states for economic growth and affordability since Gov. Lamont and Democrats won large majorities in 2018.

Republicans are outnumbered at the State Capitol, but we will continue pushing for lower taxes, lower electricity costs and the elimination of unnecessary burdens on job creators which stunt economic growth.”
