Senator Perillo’s Statement on Gov. Lamont’s Veto of H.B. 5002
June 23, 2025

HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT – State Senator Jason Perillo (R-Shelton) released the following statement in response to Governor Lamont Vetoing H.B. 5002:
“The Governor’s veto today was prudent and I’m happy he did it. That said, this is hardly over. Legislative Democrats want more dense affordable housing complexes in suburban communities like ours. I have no doubt that they’ll keep pushing.
Throughout this process, I voiced strong opposition to H.B. 5002 because it threatened to override local leaders who best understand the needs of their communities. The bill would have prioritized developers over residents, weakened local control, and pushed high-density mandates.
I am committed to working across the aisle to create real, community-driven solutions that empower local leaders and incentivize the redevelopment of underutilized properties. The Governor’s veto opens the door for a more thoughtful and collaborative approach to solving Connecticut’s housing challenges.”
