Sen. Gordon Praises New Agriculture Law as a “Win for Connecticut Farmers”
June 20, 2025
HARTFORD, CT — State Sen. Jeffrey Gordon (R-Woodstock) today praised the passage of Public Act No. 25-152, a comprehensive agricultural reform bill aimed at strengthening Connecticut’s farming industry through targeted tax credits, expanded grant opportunities, and modernized regulations.
“This legislation is a win for farmers, a win for our environment, and a win for our economy,” said Sen. Gordon. “It delivers the tools and incentives farmers need to thrive while embracing innovation and sustainability.”
Sen. Gordon, a longtime advocate with a public record of supporting Connecticut’s local and state agricultural priorities, also serves as a member of the Connecticut Farm Bureau and was a co-sponsor of the bill.
The new law includes a 20% tax credit for eligible farmers who invest in machinery, buildings, and other agricultural infrastructure. It also expands property tax exemptions for farming equipment and provides municipalities with options to exempt farm buildings from taxation.
The Act establishes several new grant programs to support farmers dealing with crop losses, manage manure systems effectively, and expand access to fresh local food in schools and food pantries via mobile container farms.
Importantly, it also protects Connecticut’s growing agritourism industry by providing legal protections for farms offering public activities like hayrides and corn mazes, so long as safety precautions are followed.
“From helping farmers recover from extreme weather to cutting red tape for drone technology and hoop houses, this law brings agriculture into the future,” Sen. Gordon added.
The Act passed with bipartisan support and reflects a collaborative effort between lawmakers, the Department of Agriculture, and stakeholders across the farming community
