“Sending $$$ to dead people”: CT Senate GOP Statement on State Audit - CT Senate Republic

For Immediate Release

Sen. Jason Perillo, Sen. Rob Sampson and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding the CT Department of Social Services paying more than $61,000 in benefits to dead people and overpaying other clients, according to a new report by state auditors.  (https://www.ctpost.com/news/article/audit-ct-dss-paid-61k-benefits-dead-people-20303008.php)

“As Connecticut state government sends checks to dead people, we see yet another flashing neon sign on how to save overburdened taxpayers lots of money.

This is the taxpayers’ money. It’s getting sent to deceased people.

It’s not a stretch to envision this happening in other state government agencies. Imagine the opportunities for fraud this creates?

As we have stated, the governor needs to get active and direct all state agencies to tighten up their administrative functions and strengthen internal controls. This cannot keep happening to our precious taxpayer dollars.”
