Senators Gordon and Sampson Unveil Inaugural Connecticut Golden Fleece Award, Presented to CSCU
May 2, 2025

Today marks the inaugural presentation of the Connecticut Golden Fleece Award, where State Senator Jeff Gordon and State Senator Rob Sampson will shine a light on what your state government is doing with your taxpayer dollars. This month, we recognize the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) system. Awarded for fiscal waste, fraud, and abuse, exemplified by CSCU Chancellor Cheng’s $60 steaks, martinis, fine wines, chauffeured rides, and room service, all charged to the taxpayers of Connecticut. At the same time, CSCU has been hoarding over $600 million dollars, while still raising student tuition. The cherry on top was this week’s announcement that Cheng wouldn’t be fired but would have his official duties removed while being paid an additional $442,000 taxpayer salary for a no-show ‘job.’ Congratulations, CSCU and Governor Lamont, on this auspicious award! A clear example of why accountability and transparency in government spending matters!
