Sen. Berthel Proudly Votes ‘Yes’ to Support State Trooper Salary Increases
May 22, 2025

HARTFORD – State Sen. Eric Berthel (R-Watertown) today proudly voted ‘yes’ to support salary increases for Connecticut’s state troopers.
“Without peace officers, there is no peace. I’m proud to support the great work of our state troopers, who risk their own safety to protect ours. Tragically, some of Connecticut’s troopers have been killed in the line of duty or seriously injured. The hazards of their job are extraordinary. In many of our small towns across the state, the resident trooper is our local police officer, routinely responding to calls of distress alone. In Woodbury, in 2021, Veteran Trooper Sgt. Brian Mohl tragically lost his life while protecting others from raging floodwaters. Public servants like Brian and all of our troopers deserve our support, and part of that is financial support.
“With that said, we must recruit and retain troopers to fill the many vacancies in our state police force. Connecticut needs the best, and these increases will help to recruit talented law enforcement professionals to keep us safe,” he said.
