“National News-Making Lawlessness.” CT Senate GOP Statement on Waterbury Mall Mayhem
May 28, 2025

For Immediate Release
Sen. Rob Sampson, Sen. Paul Cicarella and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding at least five people being injured in a shooting today at the Brass Mill Center mall in Waterbury.
“Mayhem.
National news-making lawlessness.
Extreme violence in a space where people are simply trying to go about their day.
We appreciate Waterbury police for their quick response to restore order. We urge the governor to have immediate discussions about whether additional state law enforcement resources are needed on an ongoing basis in Waterbury.
As we noted earlier this month after the shooting and stabbing during a funeral service at a Hartford church: We are too soft on violent crime in Connecticut.
We must support our law enforcement and give them the tools and resources they need.”
In today’s debate at the State Capitol, Senate Republicans highlighted the Democrats’ dismantling of CT’s criminal justice system and their catering to illegal alien convicted felons. The lawmakers are working to pass policies at the State Capitol to:
– improve recruitment and retention of law enforcement officers
– empower law enforcement to hold lawbreakers accountable in conjunction with the court system to deter violent crime
