CT Senate GOP Urges Lamont to “Find His Veto Pen Again” Re: Striking Workers’ Benefits Bill
May 6, 2025

Sen. Rob Sampson, Sen. Eric Berthel and Sen. Stephen Harding today issued the following statement regarding Senate Democrat leadership saying legislation providing unemployment benefits to striking workers “needs to” pass this year.
“We urge Gov. Lamont to find his veto pen again. State Senate Democrat leaders in Hartford are hell-bent on getting this anti-business bill passed into law.
Gov. Lamont: you are being tested by your fellow Democrats yet again.
The bill essentially tells companies to NOT do business in Connecticut. The ‘unwelcome’ mat is officially out.
Job creators were united in testifying against this bill. They noted it would further hinder economic growth and job creation. They said that Connecticut is already expensive to do business in and this just makes it even harder to stay.
They noted that if this bill passes, either unemployment insurance will go up for employers or taxpayers will foot the cost.
This bad bill was vetoed last year due to the pressure exerted by Connecticut Senate Republicans. We applauded the governor for his veto then, and we look forward to reading his sequel veto message in the coming weeks.”
