CT Senate GOP Thwarted in Attempt to Have Systemic Failures in Waterbury DCF Case Analyzed
May 7, 2025

For Immediate Release
The Connecticut Senate Republican Caucus today issued the following statement regarding its May 7 vote in support of an amendment requiring the Child Advocate to analyze the effects of the Department of Children and Families’ remote work policies on the safety of children in the state.
“We continue to seek accountability in addressing the horrific tragedy that occurred in Waterbury where a young man known to DCF was held captive for decades. To make sure this never happens again, we must take a holistic approach. Any failings in any state government department must be corrected.
We offered the amendment to make a point: Targeting and scapegoating the Connecticut homeschooling community is shortsighted and wrong.
We thank the homeschooling community for coming out by the thousands this week at the State Capitol to send that clear message to lawmakers. It was truly inspiring to witness.”
The Republican amendment was voted down by majority Senate Democrats. (https://www.cga.ct.gov/2025/lcoamd/pdf/2025LCO07930-R00-AMD.pdf)
