Senator Hwang Joins Fairfield University’s Second Annual Best Buddies Walk

This past weekend, despite rainy weather, I had the incredible joy and honor of attending Fairfield University’s second annual Best Buddies Friendship Walk—a joyful and deeply moving celebration of inclusion, connection, and the dignity of every person.

What made the event so special were the moments of pure friendship—smiles exchanged, hands held, and conversations shared between Best Buddies volunteers and their Buddies. These genuine interactions reflect the heart of the Best Buddies mission: creating lasting, meaningful relationships that empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to feel valued, seen, and included.

To the students, families, volunteers, and especially the Buddies—thank you. Your compassion, warmth, and unwavering support are helping to build a world where everyone belongs.
